Looking at India as a successful model - The Times of India

Q&A: 'Bahrain is looking at India as a successful model'-Editorial-Opinion-The Times of India

The US is the only role model is an idea that does not hold any more. We're looking at India as a successful model. It has mastered the process of change. When India decided to change in 1991, they knew they had to balance economic development with social progress. The important point was its recognition that, indeed, there was a gap. In the Gulf, we're rich, but we're not rich in human capital.

Increasingly ...

India is one of the the world's only 5 republican democracies to survive for 60 years without a break. The difficulty of making a republican democracy work forces Australia and Canada to cling to the skirts of British monarchy.

No nation has has survived with multiple religions and languages for so long. This is makes India unique in the history of the world.

India's steady economic growth over the last 60 years - based on a non-Brtetton Woods mode of export led growth is again unique.

With the world's lowest prison population and the lowest police-to-population ratio, India is again a unique situation.

This is making may countries look at India to understand the 'secret of Indian success.'
